Description

01/18/11 EDIT: Now in color!

MOAR PvZ art! :dummy:
While I love most of the plants they showcase in the game, I still feel sad that the Chomper is probably the only carnivorous one. So I made some of my own. All of them are variants on the Chomper's reusable instant-kill mechanism, because after all they are designed to kill and eat animal organisms.
These six plants are collectively called the Carnivore Plants Bonus Kit. Notice that the top row features regular plants, while the bottom row features upgrade plants.

Sea Chomper
Sea Chompers can devour a zombie whole, but they are vulnerable while chewing.
Damage: massive
Range: very short
Special: long delay between chomps, must be planted in water

Sea Chomper loves to sail. Unlike his landlubber brothers Chomper and Twin Chomper, he has longed for a marine lifestyle since the day he sprouted. "We plants evolved from aquatic organisms," he says. "I've always wanted to return to my roots. It's a whole new world out there."

Pitcher Plant
Pitcher Plants swallow zombies whole. They can gulp down multiple zombies at once.
Damage: massive
Range: very short
Special: can swallow stacked zombies, but short delay between gulps

"I used to work as a security guard before I discovered the zombie problem," says Pitcher Plant. "Most days I just sat there doing nothing, except gulping down the occasional trespasser. In truth, I still laze around a lot, although most of the folks I devour tend to be a lot deader..."

Sundew
Sundews strangle one zombie per leaf, and quickly crush them to death.
Damage: massive
Range: damages all zombies on same row or column for a one column radius
Special: One zombie per leaf, short delay between crushings

"Contrary to popular belief," Sundew scoffs as she suns her leaves, "I don't actually produce sun, unlike that spoiled brat you all call Sunflower. My name comes from the glistening beads that adorn my leaves, each of which in my humble opinion is more beautiful than all of Sunflower's petals."

Giant Sundew
Giant Sundews strangle one zombie per leaf, and quickly crush them to death.
Damage: massive
Range: All eight squares around it
Special: Must be planted on Sundew

Giant Sundew was always disliked by the other plants in his childhood because he was bigger than they were. He couldn't help but cut off sunlight from the others. Nowadays, however, his large size helps him protect other plants from zombies, and for the first time, is now starting to earn some genuine respect.

Twin Chomper
Twin Chompers can devour a zombie in any of three lanes, but can only swallow two at a time.
Damage: massive
Range: Two columns in front of it, on the row it is on and the rows above and below it
Special: Must be planted on Chomper

When Dr. Zomboss was still human, one of his projects was on the evolution of the Chomper. As part of his research, he bred a special Chomper with two heads. Unfortunately, the monster went haywire, and escaped from his lab. It is rumored to still be in search of fresh meat, dead or alive...

Cobra Lily
Cobra Lilies are the quickest plant at physical combat. They can swallow whole Zombies instantly.
Damage: massive
Range: Three columns in either horizontal direction
Special: Must be planted on Pitcher Plant

"Like my namesake," says Cobra Lily, "I may look sluggish and cold-blooded, but I strike so fast you'll never know what hit you. I don't need venom, since I swallow my meals whole quickly and easily. Just don't try playing your flute to me - I'm not one to submit to an insult!"

While the Sea Chomper looks like an aquatic Chomper, it is based on an actual plant, the bladderwort (Utricularia genus). In real life it uses suction to catch its prey, so in the games the Sea Chomper will probably suck the zombie into its maw, rather than reaching for it (it has no base for the stem to grow on). The Twin Chomper, of course, is based on a regular Venus Fly Trap (the actual Dinoea muscipula often has more than one trap on the same plant).
The Pitcher Plant and both Sundews are both based on their real-life counterparts. The Pitcher Plant can be approximated to the Nepenthaceae family (and also Victribell from Pokemon, which has the same basis). The regular Sundew is based on Drosera capensis, while the Giant Sundew is partly based on Drosera spatulata.
I was going to have a more realistic Cobra Lily, but after looking at the Cattail I figured I'd take the name more literally. The reason it's an upgrade of the Pitcher Plant is that the Darlingtonia californica is part of the other family of Pitcher Plants, Sarraceniaceae.

I will try to make a color version of this soon. In the meantime, however, feel me to tell me what you think about these beauties. Carnivorous plants for sale! Prices slashed while they last! :dummy:
